Chapter Eighteen

THIRD AUDIO-TAPED INTERVIEW WITH URI GELLER - BY JOY PHILIPPOU

AFTER HE HAD PRACTISED MANTRA REPETITION FOR EIGHT MONTHS (From June 2002 - to January 2003)

JOY PHILIPPOU : Hello Uri. You say you have been meditating for eight months now. Practicing mantra repetition on a regular basis. How does it feel?

URI GELLER : For me it opened up a new dimension of space and time, and taught me how to establish a connection with what can probably be called the Supreme being. I feel that when I meditate, and interestingly enough, when I was in Australia (doing the Celebrity Outcast Show) I meditated daily on a rock in the middle of the river. I had to swim quite a way to get to it. The other members of the cast dubbed it "Uri's Meditation Rock". It was round and smooth. The sound of water rushing by, combined with the sound of birdsong was incredible. Meditating there filled me with great peace of mind. I meditated daily for an hour sitting in the Lotus position.

I would say that during those days I experienced a connection to "SOMETHING OUT THERE" the Universal Spirit - or whatever.
I've been asked to meditate quite often but have always rejected it. You are the first person in my life really, who has ever put me on the path of meditation.
J.P. How come you've never been attracted to such a spiritually uplifting activity?
U.G. I don't know I tried doing it a few times but didn't manage to sustain it for more than a few minutes. Of course I know that that was not enough to go in deeply, or to achieve any meaningful and lasting results.
J.P. Yes. One needs to do at least one hour a day and no more than two hours - maximum two and a half hours a day.
U.G. What? Right away?
J.P. Oh, no, no. It has to build up gradually from a few minutes daily - up to an hour or two later on. It's like the work out in the gym, if you've never done any exercise, then suddenly, do a two hour stint, you wake up next day in such pain you can hardly move. It has to be built up gradually.
U.G. Yes. You can't hope to build up large, strong muscles overnight.
J.P. Has meditation had any physical impact on you? Laboratory experiments in several well-known universities world-wide, have shown changes in blood-pressure, heart beat rate, blood chemistry, skin galvanization and stabilization of the nervous system and all round health - Have you experienced any difference yourself?
U.G. After meditation I really feel rejuvenated, powerful and re-charged not only physically but mentally and spiritually. I really don't understand why everybody doesn't practice meditation - at home or work, it makes such a huge difference to the quality of life.
J.P. Well, there are now some schools actually teaching it - even at primary school age. Here's an article describing children who meditate as studious and showing improved classwork results and who are polite, well behaved and non aggressive. Even the army in some countries, has meditation courses as part of military training.
U.G. This is all very interesting. You see, I've learnt something new today! Also, I want to say that meditation really helps me to remain calm. I feel definitely happier altogether.
J.P. Is there anything you have observed within yourself that would interest Scientists? You know, because the study of the rising of the Kundalini in an individual is a deep science. When Gopi Krishna wrote about his experiences of the rising of his Kundalini, doctors from all over the world flocked to Kashmir where he lived, to study its effects on the human organism, hands on so to speak.
U.G. What I can say at this point in my meditation is that it fuels my psychic energy - and if scientists studied it in depth, they would themselves all start meditating, that's for sure.
J.P. You said once that after bending the third spoon during your spoon bending demonstrations the energy diminishes so that you can't bend a fourth or fifth spoon. Have you experienced any differences in that direction. I mean, eight months isn't all that long.
U.G. Definitely, definitely. The energy is greater.
(At this point, Uri got hold of a spoon as two waiters entered the hall, and showed all three of us his finger stroking the spoon which started bending and went on bending after he placed it on the table. This used to require nearly three times as long to achieve. This time Uri just gave the spoon two or three gentle strokes with his forefinger, then almost immediately let go of it. It went on bending till it reached a right angle!)
J.P. Would you recommend meditation to others - friends, family, acquaintances etc?
U.G. Absolutely, I myself couldn't possibly do without it now. I don't know what I was thinking of when I refused to take it up. I know that there are hundreds of books about the subject - I just never wanted to read about it. All this time wasted when I could have been learning about it and advancing my evolution by leaps and bounds.
My advice to scientists in particular is to stop being sceptical and study meditation and discover how it works. They couldn't fail then to recognize that there is a Higher Power that is working in the Universe.
If I go to the States again, I will allow them to test me again in metal bending or telepathy while repeating the mantra, it will le them see the difference in results when done with the mantra repetition and then when done without - or vice versa.
J.P. It would be interesting to see their reactions to the two Kirlian photographs you had taken in June of your aura before and after meditation.
U.G. Yeah - but they would want to do their own photographs - I'm sure.
J.P. Yes, I know - but if you showed them the before picture where the area around your head is dark, and the after picture with the huge white aura round your head, they would understand why you now want to do a different kind of testing than was done before.
U.G. Yes, Well, what I DO want to show scientists is the fantastic power of meditation which will show up in whatever test they give me?
J.P. Have you ever heard of Doctor Malcom Caruthers?
U.G. No - I haven't.
J.P. He's a Harley Street Cardiologist who has been curing his patients of heart disease just by teaching them how to meditate - He gives them the mantra. His success rate has been so high in curing people of heart' disease that many cardiologists have gone to him to learn his methods!
U.G. How fascinating - but is he a real medical doctor?
J.P. He's a Harley Street cardiologist.
U.G. Wonderful! Yes, I think that meditation is going to establish itself as the New Medicine on the B.B.C Website today, this very day they were talking about the healing powers of positive thinking.
J.P. Yes, all well and good - but meditation doesn't work on the level of thought. It transcends thought and goes much deeper and works independently of the thinking process.
U.G. Does Doctor Caruthers actually give people a mantra to repeat?
J.P. Yes. Would you like to meet him?
U.G. I'd love to. Unbelievable!
J.P. I'm sure he'll invite you to his clinic and you can see him in action.
U.G. O.K. I'd really love to meet him. I'm sure that meditation is more powerful than medicine. I would like to see it spread throughout the world, I wish I had taken it up years ago - I can't understand why I never took it up.
J.P. Uri. The difference between you and the normal person, is that you were lucky enough to be born with an awakened Kundalini. All we lesser mortals have to work hard at our spiritual evolution and have spent thirty years assiduously practising meditation in order to allow the Kundalini to move upwards through the chakra s so that it reaches the brain and we achieve self-realization. But you were born with an awakened Kundalini which is that living fire that manifests through your hands and makes metal bend at your touch. But somewhere along the line she stopped in her tracks in between chakra s.
U.G. When? When did the Kundalini get stuck? Was it when I was born or in my childhood?
J.P. I don't know. This is the whole lament of this book. I tried to analyse your character traits chakra by chakra to see where you're at - but it's proving very difficult to trace exactly where you're at in the Kundalini's climb towards God realization.
U.G. How much further can I go? How - what's the limit?
J.P. The limit? What limit? How can one talk of a limit? When conscious mind and subconscious mind become united, self integration occurs, you become WHOLE, no longer functioning on two levels of consciousness each pulling in a different direction. Once this unification of consciousness occurs you enter into Superconsciousness.
U.G. Yes. I've had a short taste of that. I entered the Superconscious state one day when sitting near a Japanese lantern in my garden. It was a stupendous - ecstatic experience phew. I get goose bumps when I think about it. It was just so powerful.
J.P. Wonderful. Yes - but as you say, it was a short glimpse of the Divine State. But once your Kundalini gets to the brain (that is the seventh Chakra,) you remain in that state of consciousness for good - not just little glimpses of heaven here and there. It becomes your permanent state.
U.G. From now on I'm going to immerse myself in it totally.
J.P. The thing is to keep it going regularly even though the mind goes wandering and finds excuses to make you stop.
U.G. That's it. I'm going to start being more disciplined and keep the practice up regularly.
J.P. You were talking about several groups of sick children coming to you for healing.
U.G. Yes. Since starting meditation I've found that the energy coming through my hands is so much stronger that it does help sick people. But I must state emphatically that I don't call myself a Healer.
J.P. Oh - I meant to ask you. Are you actually aware of the Kundalini moving through your spine at all?
U.G. Not really - no, not really.
J.P. Do you see any visions during meditation or have you received any new insight?
U.G. What I have received - is I see my past lives more clearly (long pause) Yeah. I do - I do.
J.P. Really? No visions - nothing visual?
U.G. The only thing I see is vivid colours, mostly gold and purple. But I tell you what I'm hooked on meditation now, I'm hooked on it more than I'm hooked on my daily work out I really really find that I can't do without it.
Also, you know I'm doing another round of lecture tours around the theatres and cinemas etc, like I did last year - only this time I'm going to talk about how meditation has augmented my energies and put me into a calmer and happier frame of mind.
J.P. Oh - Terrific. You could help so many people that way, you have a platform - and you're finally going to use if for God and your fellow humans.
U.G. I'm so lucky that I met you - to be honest with you. You know it's a pity you didn't show me all this in the very beginning of our acquaintance.
J.P. Do you think meditation is something you are going to continue doing or is it just a passing phase?
U.G. Are you kidding? I'm never going to stop meditating it's like this is it : It's become part of my life like sleeping and eating - something that can't be omitted from life's routine for as long as I live.
