When asked if Uri knew where his powers came from, he made a rather peculiar statement, viz......"but in order to neutralize, sort of the holiness about powers, I tell that everything that we do comes as a gift. You have a gift, Dave has a gift, we all have a gift and I think that the gift is from God".
Again, Uri obviously still has not come to the conclusion that the powers he possesses are a demonstration of an awakened Kundalini. I, personally do not have that gift, neither does Dave have that gift, neither does everybody have that gift. It is one in every several million people that has acquired an awakened Kundalini.
He is unclear about the terminology applied and mistakenly refers to the fact that we all have some talent or other. But an awakened Kundalini which unleashes super human powers in the lucky chosen recipient is definitely NOT a talent but the result of ardent yogic disciplines pertaining to concentrated meditation techniques over a very long period. Clairvoyance - mind reading, healing powers, metal melting, levitation, psycho- kinesis, and a myriad other supernatural capabilities come only as a RESULT of an awakened Kundalini and are not "talents" distributed like confetti as a matter of course to each member of the human race. If such a culmination of our human potential is to be attained, it must needs be striven for. There are definite clear guidelines as to how to get there and what steps to take. How soon each individual achieves his or her full potential, depends on how ardently enlightenment of God-realization is sought and how assiduously each one is prepared to follow the spiritual path indicated by those who themselves have reached the goal successfully and become God-realized. It has been indicated that every man, woman and child in existence is programmed to fulfil his or her potential - Some will do so sooner than others, but eventually every soul will evolve till God realization is achieved - just as every caterpillar is programmed to become a butterfly eventually.
One can't help wondering why Uri Geller feels the need to neutralize, sort of, the holiness about powers". If he means that he recognizes that his super faculties come from a Divine source, then surely it would be easier for all concerned if he were humble enough to bear witness to the fact and declare it to the world in a simple straight forward statement - it is perplexing to hear him state the need to "neutralize the holiness about powers". It is not very clear why the holiness needs to be neutralized, or modified in any way. He may, if the truth were told, be ashamed to acknowledge any religious link with his supernatural powers - and chooses rather to ingratiate himself with that section of the population that denies the existence of an Almighty Creative Intelligence called God and try to cover up the sacred nature of all supernatural powers and events. It comes as a shock to realize that this man, who could be an outstanding spokesman for God, and a prime living example of the stupendous power and joy that human beings could reap as a result of spiritual activity, should choose to shy away in embarrassment, and refuse to fight the good fight on the side of the angels. Now, more than at any other time in history, the citizens of the earth stand in dire need of a charismatic leader. Uri more than any living man on the face of this planet, could have been that charismatic leader - with living proof of Godly power pouring out of his hands and radiating from his eyes and emanating out of his mouth - to touch the hearts and minds of all who saw or heard him. The living fire within him, instead of melting spoons, could melt tumours and heal diseases; he could be showing people the means to enlightenment. Instead of hackneyed meaningless phrases like, "you all have a gift; use the powers of your mind" which sound wonderful but don't actually help anyone fulfil their potential, he could show them exactly what steps to take to become healthy, happy, spiritually fulfilled people, who could live in peace and joyful creativity that could turn this hell-bent generation into creators of heaven and earth.
When Christ said "Woe unto you who possess the keys to the kingdom of heaven, and neither enter into it yourselves, but also prevent others from doing so", one wonders whether he had someone like Uri Geller in mind. Someone who could through fame, fortune, the supernatural powers of awakened divine fire in his body and vast, instant access to the media, and yet used it all solely to acquire fame and wealth.
Uri declares during the interview - "I'm sick to death of spoon bending". He puts out brochures for his lecture tours that promise words that will change people's lives for the better.
Yet to say "now altogether concentrate your mind and say "work" to get broken watches to go again, making people think that they are using the power of their mind to help Uri get watches to tick and radish seeds to grow, is only partially true.
Even without audience participation those clocks would work, spoons would bend and radish seeds would sprout - because the Divine fire is working through Uri Geller. And again when answering the question as to where his powers come from, he says "In my mind I fantasize and bring back information and make up my own theories". It has nothing to do with his mind. As a matter of fact for the "paranormal energy" called Kundalini to be active, the mind has to be completely inactive so that the Higher Self as a High consciousness can manifest itself. When watching children sitting on a see-saw, we see that when the right side goes up, the left side automatically does down, and vice versa; When ego or mind takes the upper hand in our life, the Higher Self withdraws. When ego surrenders its power or its will - and takes a back seat, the Higher Self takes over and begins to manifest itself freely in our life.
It is not by fantasizing that Uri will "bring back information". It is only by looking deep within himself and recognizing the inner workings of Superconsciousness that is working within him and manifesting its powers.
Uri says that he is not aware of any physical sensation going through his body that indicates certain power or electricity going through. But again he attributes his supernatural feats to his mental faculty saying" ......It's almost happening mentally in my mind".
It has nothing to do with his mind. As a matter of fact if his mind didn't stand in the way and block the divine flow, his powers would have greater impact, and it would allow even greater feats to take place.
As can be seen later on in the interview Uri is shown Kirlian photography pictures and the screen of his computer showing energy actually being transmitted from his finger into a watch, in the shape of a ray of light. It's not something produced by his mind but the Primordial Creative Energy itself that is alive and intelligently active - emanating through his hands and eyes.
Uri goes on to declare: "my exercise regime enhances my powers. When I do twenty-seven miles of biking everyday, I'm more powerful. When I get my whole physical state working my mental attitude is more powerful". This stress that he puts on the mental aspect and its influence, highlights his need to become more informed about the yogic process being played out at the moment within his physical organism, by a non-material power. If he finds that exercising enhances his powers, it would be positively mind boggling for him, when he experiences the stupendous force that he is going to be able to activate if and when he switches instead, to the exercise of meditation. When, through meditation he will finally bring about the unification of his conscious and subconscious mind he will find himself ecstatically catapulted into the super conscious state and will be able to taste the bliss of liberation from the painful state of duality, which is the onerous yoke most of suffering humanity has to labour under.
He says, "I do get tired after a long day and I have to restore my powers by sleeping or resting" If he meditated, there would be no need for him to restore his powers by sleeping and resting. He would have constant access to the power house of energy at the core of his being, having entered into him when he was a child and resides in his solar plexus. It would be active to a much greater degree.
Once he starts the process, the whole course of his life would change, and one could say, the whole history of the planet would change. Uri's powers would no longer ebb and rise, depending on his diet or other people's attitudes or the amount of exercise he takes or whether he sleeps or not. An awakened Kundalini nurtured by sound vibration which is brought about by mantra repetition, is kept alive and working at peak level.
The first spoon Uri bends is done quite easily, and the second one bends less, and the third one even less - By the time he gets to the fourth spoon there's hardly any energy left. Once he takes up meditation such a situation would not arise. So much energy would be unleashed from his solar plexus he would be able to bend fifty spoons. Instead of using a torch whose batteries become depleted and need regular and repeated recharging, he would be using a strong lamp plugged into the central electric powerhouse supplying him with an endless source of light.
Uri thinks his energies ebb because he may have "programmed his mind psychologically" (here again he equates the psyche with mind "Maybe I have programmed myself to believe that that is how it should be". He shows that he's got an inkling of the truth by saying, "May be the power is always there".
The power most certainly is there - but because he is completely untutored about yogic science, he is either unsure or unconscious of the fact. If he "programmed his mind psychologically" to devote some time to the trapped fire within him and unleash it - he would rock the world.
He goes on to say "You don't know, but I cannot bend a spoon alone, I may use other people's energies, and I manage in a strange way to "dump" them into metal and alter its molecular structure, using other people's energy".
It is definitely NOT "other people's energy" that he uses, but the primordial Kundalini energy resonating within, that is using him to manifest it's power through him. When spoons bend and broken clocks and watches start ticking in numerous remote drawers all over the country it is neither Uri Geller's energy, nor the energy of their owners that is being "dumped into the metal", but the creative ball of fire that chose to enter into him as a child, that is making itself manifest throughout the land, just like a sun at noon can be seen all over the country and whose warmth can be felt by everyone, whether they believe it exists or not.
The fact that he needs other people present is because, as has been pointed out with regard to other occasions, his Kundalini energy has not risen right up to reach the Sahasrar at the crown of his head. Once he liberates the trapped energy he will no longer feel the need for other people's presence for the energy to function and flow freely.
He goes on "if people around me are open-minded and not sceptical and not cynical, then my energies are stronger." There again we are faced with the same symptoms. His ego or mind - calls them "my energies". As long as ego is active, the Resident Power is hindered from full manifestation. Once Uri is completely enlightened, it would not matter to him in the least whether people around him were sceptical or cynical, or open-minded.
Uri says that by becoming a vegetarian his powers were amplified. "I don't know why really - is it because my body has become healthier? Is it because I have less toxins in my body, less chemicals, less additives, or is it because my spiritual outlook is more open or more profound?"
It could be one or all of these reasons, but according to widespread yogic literature, meat activates aggression and sexual desire and activity in people, and in so doing it hinders the Kundalini's progress up the spinal cord and seriously delays the Self/ self integration process.
Other foods also have an influence on a person's state of consciousness. Coffee, or drinks containing caffeine for example, prevent one from sleeping and entering into the consciousness experienced in the dream state and keep one tethered to the consciousness experienced in the daily waking state. The same goes for alcohol.
Of course it is also possible to assimilate substances that propel one to higher states of consciousness. Certain types of mushroom, in particular the kind known as "the sacred mushroom" can put one in a mystic state. So much so that certain Inca sects use it as Holy Communion during mass and other religious ceremonies. In concentrated form it becomes the hallucinatory L.S.D. Certain types of cactus, such as Payote, made famous by Carlos Castaneda in "Journey to Ixtian", also have the possibility of opening up the brain channels that grant one entry into higher states of consciousness.
A description of these higher states by people who have experienced them can be found in Paul Brunton's "The Serpent Power", Aldous Huxley's "The Doors of Perception" and Carlos Castaneda's books, and more recently, books like Swami Muktananda's "The Play of Consciousness" "Kundalini" by Gopi Krishna and "A Crack in the Cosmic Egg" by Joseph Chilton Pierce who also wrote "The Bond of Power", dealing with the same subject.
So, by becoming a vegetarian, Uri has unwittingly taken the first of the necessary steps on the path to spiritual liberation; the other three steps being chastity, meditation and yogic exercise to help push Kundalini upwards through the spine and untangle and strengthen the nervous system to help it contain the extra psychic energy when it is finally unleashed.
Another "Gellerism" goes: "I think the energy is like your soul which is a part of you". The soul, according to all Holy Scriptures is not a "part" of you. The soul IS you. Uri says it's an extension of your being". It IS your Being.
He goes on to declare emphatically "No one knows the Truth. No one knows the mystery of the Universe, and I think all our questions are unanswered because our minds are too small to comprehend the answer". He hits the nail bang on the head there! That's exactly it - We cannot know these things with our mind, but the spiritual leaders of this world throughout history, have had access to the highest states of super-human consciousness and personal contact with God. They received knowledge of the Truth and the mystery of the Universe and were authorized to come back and teach the Truth to the rest of humanity - so that eventually they can all become enlightened.
It seems so tragic to hear a man on the threshold of the highest state, to say that he could never know the Truth or understand the mystery of the Universe when all he has to do is reach out for the means of access. He is privileged among humans to have broken the chains that bound his Kundalini, and have had her awakened. All he needs to do now is to help her continue and then finalize the process, which would complete his enlightenment. When that happens - not only will he be allowed to comprehend the Truth, but he will be able to "return to the market place", as the Buddha put it, and help the rest of his fellow humans to acquire the same. But if he tries to do it with his mind, he is right, it is too infinitesimal to even begin to comprehend the Truth. That seems to be the state he's in now.
The rest of us might need several lifetimes of hard work and searching and religious practice before we get there - but Uri has gone beyond the hardest part. He is half way there - as we can see from his special powers, yet he seems content to stand with the rank and file of those who are still searching. It is said that in the realm of the blind the one eyed man is king. Even though Uri has not yet made it to full enlightenment, he could still help others on the way. He, the one eyed king can still see where he's going and get us to face in the right direction, and avoid falling into the abyss.
Another very apt simile is often recounted by spiritual teachers in the form of the following parable. A lion cub, having lost his parents to game hunters, was raised by sheep. He grew up thinking he was one of them. He grazed grass like a sheep and bleated like a sheep, and when one day a lion pounced upon them roaring, all the sheep ran away - The young lion ran away with them. The mighty king of beasts asked him why he, a lion should be running away from him. "Me? A lion? "answered the little one "Yes - you a lion". He took the young lion to a nearby pond and pointed to both their reflections. When realization dawned upon him of who he actually was - the young one roared like a lion and nevermore bleated or ran away like a sheep.
In a little while, in a little while - could it be that Uri Sheep will realize that he's just a mantra away from becoming Uri Lion? If and when that happens, instead of going around the world stages bleating - our minds can never know the Truth, he would be roaring "EUREKA come to me and learn".
Before that, it he wishes to reach the higher states of consciousness, he would need to transcend the mind. That is why meditation is called "Transcendental" - because it transcends the mind, to go beyond - into the higher realms to establish personal contact with the Higher Self who dwells within and is waiting for spiritual union with the soul.
When one manages to transcend the mind, it is rather like being in a plane that pierces through the clouds to where the sun is no longer obscured. The realm of thought - forms a cloud barrier to our superconciousness. Meditation pierces through the thought barrier, where ego is trapped, wallowing in envy, anger, hatred, fear, anxiety and insecurity. In the realm of mind, thoughts are fabricated, and thought is where negativity abounds - To break the negative chains that bind one to imprisonment and struggle, all one has to do is learn to TRANSCEND.
Of course, it is a matter of choice. We can use our tickets to blissful freedom or throw them into the cosmic rubbish bin - and make God weep. When Uri is told that he was especially chosen, he says "Hold on - I want to correct that. I don't think that I've ever said that I was especially chosen".
Well! When one in more than a hundred million people obtains an awakened Kundalini and as a result, manifests supernatural powers, it stands to reason to conclude that he is especially chosen. Is it not an insult to the author of his Being not to recognize and acknowledge the fact. Is it because Uri is so anxious to appear unegotistical that he feels compelled to insist that he has never said that he was especially chosen? Should he not be shouting it from the rooftops? Should he not acknowledge the fact joyfully? And last but not least, should he not DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT? It would be a very wise move - before it becomes too late - to ask himself why he was chose, and what he is meant to do. To say "no, I have not been especially chosen, we've all been especially chosen, we all have a gift" - is inaccurate pseudo modesty and not very convincing. It also shows up his lack of information pertaining to the facts of the matter of his spiritual evolution.
Another telling statement of Uri's is, "At one time there was a lot of confusion in my life and sometimes there still is". Again; when he starts meditating there will no longer be any confusion. When he plugs into the super conscious source of all knowledge buried deep inside his inner treasure cave, with the "open sesame" mantra meditation technique, he will be able to have all the information and clarification he needs and any confusion he still feels will be dispersed.
Uri goes on: "The ups and downs in one's life ....everyone has them. There is confusion about where you are going:- where your powers are coming from. Really - what am I to do with the power? - why are the things I manifest rather trivial? And why am I not doing something more important?"
Again - he is stating that he does not know where his powers are coming from - The utterance of the un-enlightened man. The fully enlightened person - whose primordial energy - The Kundalini - is active within him or her, would never - after three decades of miraculous manifestations ask such a seemingly senseless question as "what am I to do with the power?" He or she would dedicate their lives to the service of God and the whole of humanity, teaching, healing and helping others to bring about their own enlightenment. The answer to "why are things I manifest rather trivial is that the things he manifests are not trivial. What he is manifesting when metal melts and bends at his touch is that there exists a non material energy in this material world - i.e. a spiritual entity. When Uri Geller reproduces a picture that someone has previously drawn and hidden - he does so by the power of spirit able to traverse matter in order to communicate with spirit in other words "telepathy". When he makes a seed sprout in the palm of his hand - he is manifesting the power of the Divine Creator who makes enough seeds to feed His teeming millions to work through Uri Geller. So, the things Uri manife4sts are not at all trivial, they are in actual fact stupendous -
As for the next question he asks with raised shoulders, extended arms and open hands, "why am I not doing something more important?", it is a question every spiritually inclined individual on the face of this planet is asking themselves and would long to be able to have the opportunity to put that very same question to Uri himself.
It's not as though Uri has no role model. History has provided him with innumerable examples of sublime men and women whose works and lives he could emulate if he really does not know how best to spend his life on earth and what to do with his powers that would allow him to fulfil his destiny and give sacred meaning to his life. Among his own contemporaries, there are names spelt out in golden letters of fire that are seared upon our minds and hearts for all eternity, and they managed to shine like beacons without possessing any of Uri Geller's powers - or fortune. Mother Theresa, Albert Schweitzer, Bob Geldof, Martin Luther King, Princess Diana, Nelson Mandela, Schindler and Mahatma Gandhi spent their lives healing or teaching or helping their fellow humans in various ways and even more astounding still, every one of them actually risked their lives in the service of God and humanity.
Recently, there was a charity concert given to an audience of five thousand people at the Royal Albert Hall. Among the celebrities who appeared on stage in the capacity of performer or speaker were Ian Duncan Smith, Michael Portillo, Patti Boulaye (who actually organized and staged the whole event) Sir Cliff Richard - Bony-M and Uri Geller.
This could have been an opportunity to acknowledge God's existence and power. To be living proof of Emanuel (Em- anuel - God is present with us. He could say "here's proof - look". He could say "Hallelujah" (Hallelu - Jah - Praise the Lord) - He could urge people to be generous help save lives and stop sixty thousand people dying of AIDS daily in Nigeria.
By contrast Sir Cliff Richard took the stage after Uri did and when he finished singing his first song said "I'm not ashamed to declare that I'm a Christian - You all know that - and Christ governs all my actions and motivates my whole life - Patti Boulaye came on and said - God wants us all to help each other - If that is not our aim in life - we shouldn't be allowed to live on this planet". The audience yelled its approval and applauded loudly and long.
One wonders why Uri refuses to project the same kind of holy courage and declare his love of God and people. What seems to be lacking though is the strong courage and conviction needed to motivate him to be a spokesman for God and a healing teacher to human beings.
There is a chorus most children learn in school that says
"Dare to be a Daniel
Dare to stand alone
Dare to have a purpose firm
And dare to make it known"
(incidentally Uri's son is called Daniel - and like the hymn - it refers to the Biblical Daniel who was thrown to the lions, because he refused to worship any other God - but the God of Israel. Of course - he survived unharmed!)
If ordinary people can turn their life into an extraordinary vehicle for the manifestation of love, generosity, bravery and heroism, how much more must understandably be demanded of one who like Uri is equipped to the highest degree with powers that would enable him to follow Christ's injunction "Let your light so shine before men that they may see your good works and glorify your Father who is in heaven"....."He that does not side with us - is against us"...and finally, "If you are neither hot nor cold - I will spit you out of my mouth!"
Although Uri is not a Christian himself, he was educated in a Catholic monastery school, and must surely recognize in his heart of hearts the Truth and Wisdom and Divine authority of such utterances, which are echoed in the sacred scriptures of all religions.
On second thoughts Uri adds "I DO do something important with my energies - things that I can't talk about" and then he nevertheless goes on to talk about them, saying "...like getting government leaders to meet and helping certain governments to locate things like silver mines, gold mines and oil, etc..."
Yes, they are "important things" which may in the long run help many people if the funds fall into the right hands and go to alleviate poverty, suffering and ignorance - but unless they are done not only for lucre but with God and his fellow man in mind, they cannot be deemed important from that perspective. There are written reports of statements made by Uri himself that he bills the said governments œ1000.000 (One million pounds) to locate such - whether anything is found or not. So - of course these are "important" things that he does with the help of his supernatural powers, but are they important from a spiritual standpoint? Would it not be more "important" to fulfil his own potential, become more spiritually literate and teach others to contact their own Higher Self and the source of joy and permanent peace and contentment within their own Self? Would it not be more "important" to use "the FORCE that through the green fuse drives the flower" (as Dylan Thomas puts it so eloquently in Under Milkwood) that same FORCE that makes a radish seed sprout in Uri's hand, to heal the sick and pass on energy by placing his hands in blessing upon the heads of adults and children who would flock to receive if from the four corners of the world?
Nicolas Humphrey in his book Soul Searching says that Uri refers to his paranormal powers as "those oddly clownish forces".
Humphrey in a later paragraph goes on to compare Uri to Jesus (as a miracle worker) and Shipi Shtrang as John the Baptist to Uri's Jesus, and ...like Jesus, Uri could genuinely meet his own and others' expectations of him .One could go on to add "and like Jesus, Uri could use his powers to become today's greatest healer and teacher" But Christ, when tempted to become powerful, rich and famous, rejected the idea of temporary power and glory and opted rather to do God's will and thus gain eternal bliss in union with God; and more to the point, He never referred to the powers invested in Him as "those oddly clownish forces".
FURTHER ANALYSIS OF INTERVIEW WITH URI
Uri is interviewed constantly by the media worldwide, precisely because he possesses powers that place him above the ordinary. Whether he strikes them as being completely baffling or not, is neither here nor there. What is important to find out is why and how he possesses extra-ordinary paranormal powers, and what he thinks is the appropriate way of using them.
Controversial media hype has surrounded Uri from the moment he burst upon the international scene in the seventies. Interviewers and commentators tend to line up either for Uri or against him - yet not one of them has ever zoomed in to focus upon the essentially interesting fact that he manifests spiritual forces working through him - which if paid attention to could have world wide repercussions.
But - returning to our analysis of the latest interview to hand, Uri says - "There are always ups and downs in my life" - He could, if he meditated, reach an even keel, where ups and downs no longer take turns to jostle for attention - and enjoy peak existence. He also points out that "its getting better. I've matured I have more signs. I have more literature read and I have more stories heard". Here it is imperative to point out that all the literature he has read has not been of the calibre that would liberate his trapped Kundalini and put him onto the path of God Realization.
Uri declares "In order to help people to believe in God, I say to them Breathe - Experience - Learn. Listen". What are they to experience? If you yourself have not experienced yet - what is the experience you are promising others? Learn - what is it that you are teaching them exactly? How are you going to teach people if you yourself have not been THERE and come back glowing with enlightenment? How are you going to teach if you yourself refuse to recognize the teachers who are teaching you, and you brush aside the teachings they bear like a gift from heaven for your elevation and completion.
You're telling people to listen, but you don't know yourself what it is that one needs to listen to.
If Uri read books by Swami Muktananda and Gopi Krishna who have entered into the superconcious state and know what knowledge needs to be acquired and what it is that he needs to listen to, he would reach the heights he is destined for - and over and above that - he would then be able to teach others, and pass on the peace, the bliss and the fulfillment that the resultant experience brings about. By rejecting such instruction he has no inkling of what he is missing out on. Unfortunately not all the Rabbis, priests or professors in the world can bestow upon him the necessary knowledge that will place the keys to the kingdom of heaven within, in his hands. This has to come from the God-Realized ones themselves. All he has to do is to dedicate some time for himself. Time "to Breathe, Experience, Listen and Learn". Otherwise, teaching, as he is trying to do every time he lectures on stage, without the TEACHINGS, is like a blind man teaching others to see. About such people Christ said "And the blind shall lead the blind and they shall both fall into the ditch".
About the books he writes, Uri says "My books are riddled with philosophy. There is a major pool of knowledge and intelligence in my books". What he doesn't realize is that philosophy is a pretty useless device for living and surviving only in the physical world - a mental activity that will never achieve God-realization, and in his case particularly - will never be able to help his trapped Kundalini move upwards to her final required destination.
If he wishes to become a renowned, widely accepted teacher, which seems to be his new goal in life, he needs to take time off and read the necessary literature and be humble enough to sit at the feet of a spiritual Master and work at his own perfecting of character. He needs to practice certain techniques that will activate the brain cells and inundate them with light - literally - and when he finally achieves enlightenment - he will be able to become the charismatic leader he is destined to be, with real knowledge to pass on to the desperately seeking masses.
It is a historical fact, documented in the archives of the Catholic Church, that when St Thomas Aquinas suddenly and unexpectedly became enlightened, he began to tear up and burn the huge volumes of his published works known as the "Summa Theologica". The priests and monks around him at the time precipitatedly rescued every scrap they could lay their hands on, for it was the church's pride and joy and most valued and respected collection of Catholic Theology - which it remains to this very day. But this truly "major pool of knowledge" which took St Thomas Aquinas several years to write, seemed like utter piffle to him after his enlightenment. He saw it for what it really was - the machinations of the human mind that didn't even begin to touch upon the TRUTH as it revealed itself to him upon the momentous event of his enlightenment. The irony and, one might even say the tradgedy of it all, is that the treasured volumes salvaged have not and cannot even reveal that truth through the written or spoken word. The TRUTH can only be revealed fully through experience of enlightenment - Not through religious verbosity.
Uri of all people is privileged to be eligible to that experience, but it will always be beyond his reach - till he takes the necessary steps that will lead him out of the impasse he is in at present. Upon enlightenment, he will surely see that the clusters of words he uses do not contain the essential spiritual information that leads any seeker to knowledge and personal experience of the truth, when transported to the higher state of superconciousness.
Uri continues - "You use self discovery - you use meditation, you use your mind to travel". All these utterances remind one of Oscar Wilde's famous and witty definition of diplomas: "Visible signs, of invisible ignorance". i.e. they tell us on paper what knowledge their owner has amassed, but they do not tell us of all the knowledge that lies out there that they are ignorant of. What Uri refers to is not self discovery which refers to a person's ego - but SELF discovery i.e. the God within, who is the real Self of every individual. The term "meditation" defines the practice of mantra repetition, and not contemplation which is the mistake commonly made by everyone who is not in the know - if Uri means the practice of mantra repetition, then it seems strange that he should suggest it to others, when he himself is not a meditator - in the sense that William Hague is a meditator who repeats the mantra for twenty minutes every morning and twenty minutes every evening, day in, day out - year in year out as do millions of meditators throughout the world and who has the self discipline to do it and is not ashamed to declare it to all and sundry. He also attributes to meditation his good health and his amazing faculty for remaining calm and unruffled during a major crisis.
When it was suggested to Uri that he sit and meditate before and after Kirlian photographs are taken in order to see how much larger his aura could grow - he agreed, saying "If it's only for ten minutes I don't have a problem with that - as long as it's not more than ten minutes". If he says people should meditate - is he telling them that they can achieve enlightenment by sitting to meditate for only ten minutes?
As for using the mind to travel - it is well known that to travel "as he puts it, the first requisite is to leave the mind behind, and transcend it, otherwise one remains imprisoned in the realm of THOUGHT.
The mind-power he tells people they can achieve by concentration and will power - can only come about if they are taught how to access the creative intelligence that feeds the human mind.
Spiritual leaders throughout the ages have all had one aim - to heal the spirit of the afflicted and the bewildered, show them the spiritual path back to God, and show them the way to contact their Source of inner peace and joy. But it takes more than a 'mind kit' of book and crystal, or concentration tactics to teach people their most important be all and end all of life on earth - i.e. Self realization - Enlightenment - Entry into Blissful Higher states of consciousness, Freedom of spirit - Eternal Union with their loving Creator.
A man with his potential and powers, with sixteen or more published books to his name and friendly contacts in the world of publishing could educate and enlighten the masses instead of having to create novels with imaginary characters.
The great names of literature used novels as a means of conveying a spiritual or moral message, or to bring about change in social issues that needed redressing. Not being enlightened or God Realized, they nevertheless had ideas and elevated intentions and used their talents to serve God and improve the lives of their fellow men.
Of course, Nobel prize winner Hermen Hesse immediately springs to mind, whose "Steppenwolf" "The Crystal mountain" and "The Glass Bead Game" among others impressed yogic tenets of spiritual wisdom and practice upon the minds of millions.
Once Kundalini is liberated and continues upwards to reach his brain - Uri would not need to use his imagination to fabricate fictional situations - the sublime poetry instruction and knowledge would come pouring out onto the page effortlessly - full of truth and power and be much more thrilling and moving than any novel he could write in his present state of being half way to super-consciousness.
Uri, towards the end of the interview says - "I must move on from spoon - bending, I want to teach people to change their life for the better. That's why I'm going to take them on my journey and that's why I called it the "Uri Geller Experience". I will tell them my life story I will tell them to place themselves in my shoes and they will find the connections".
What connections? He does not say. Moreover he has already told the Uri Geller story literally countless times already in books magazines newspapers, on lecture tours, during interviews, on radio and television. All the facts have been recounted, chewed over - discussed, read, assimilated and digested and are still being regurjitated. The momentous events in the Arab garden, his mother's poverty, his parents separation, his childhood in a kibutz - his mothers remarriage - his school in Cyprus with the Terra Sancta monks, his army days - his thoughts and feelings about an arab soldier he killed during the Arab Israeli war - his modeling days - Shipi's role in promoting his stage appearances, his loves - his marriage - his world travels and scientific testing - and the controversy his demonstrated powers have caused etc...,etc...,etc..., over and over and over - hasn't the time come when he should move on, as he says he wants to? Not simply a wannabe spiritual teacher who, in his own words, wants to teach people to change their lives for the better, but one who can actually deliver the goods. What is it he is going to teach people that will transform their lives for the better? What is it that has not already been taught by Christ, the Buddha, Moses, the prophet Mohammad and all the prophets, sages and philosophers in history?
To adopt as his special brand of teaching the catch phrase "Look - you too can do what I can do - You too have these powers" is misleading and raises false hopes in people seeking for a way out of life's difficulties. His powers have come about as a result of his awakened primordial Kundalini energy.
It is true that every man, woman and child ever born is endowed with Kundalini energy - but it is also true that in the vast majority of members of the human race, especially in the West, it lies dormant and can only be awakened and safely activated by a bona fide God-realized Guru.
Until Uri decides to do something about his blocked Kundalini progress, his powers will remain limited and might even dwindle to non existence, and all the lectures he delivers will be sterile, unproductive and unconvincing because he himself needs to be liberated first, before he can possess the treasures that he is hoping to pass on to others. Is it possible for a bankrupt banker to bestow financial aid to would be borrowers? Does he not have to get himself out of the red before he can set himself up as a bestower of financial bounty? With his fame, fortune, celebrity connections and media access - Uri, once he acquires the necessary knowledge and spiritual maturity that are at present still insufficient, if he plans to set himself up as a teacher, could be a real instrument of transformation.
He has stage presence, an aura of confidence, authority, a pleasant speaking voice, good looks and years of public speaking experience. He also has the biggest bonus of all - the activated inner fire - waiting to erupt like lightening to inundate his brain with joyful power and wisdom. When that happens, he will have the goods to deliver like few Western teachers have done in our time.
Deepak Chopra, Alan Watts, Lyal Watson, Eric Fromm, Herman Hesse, John Biofield, Swami Muktananda, Yogananda, Vivekananda, Evelyn Underhill and others of their caliber have become household names as dynamic speakers and writers who transformed the lives of thousands of people, and are still doing so today. Deepak Chopra's lectures are always sold out weeks in advance, with people queuing round the block and falling over themselves to pay very high prices for the privilege of hearing him - None of his books need boosting with paranormal fiction. What he, and all the aforementioned celebrated teacher/writers have in common is the fact that they all practiced the technique of meditation and were steeped in yogic knowledge.
Dr Malcom Caruthers, a Harley Street Cardiologist gives sell-out lectures and courses to other Harley Street Doctors. They flock to him to learn the secret of his high success in curing heart disease in so many of his patients - His method? He teaches his patients how to meditate!
Just as these great men and women have made such an impact on human consciousness, Uri has what it takes to be the next great teacher/reformer. But it remains to be seen whether he really wants to lead the world to an elevated state of consciousness - or whether he is just looking for another source of activity that will keep him on stage and in public view for a few more hundred sessions of insured income.
Each of the world's teachers took time and trouble to study the ins and outs of their chosen spiritual path, and put a great deal of effort into speeding up their own evolution. Uri doesn't have to go through such stupendous effort - Because he already has an awakened Kundalini, as soon as he learns to meditate - his progress will advance by leaps and bounds. And once he enters into the fifth and sixth chakra s, he will contact the source of wisdom. He will be able to speak for hours without the need for extensive notes or having to refer to books for information or subject matter. What he says will be charged with dynamic truth that could not possibly fail to touch the hearts and minds of all who hear him.
Uri Geller has often said "I am not neither do I ever want to be a Guru, or a healer or a miracle worker or a teacher". In that case one wonders why he has launched yet another extensive lecture tour, with coloured brochures saying that he wants to teach people to contact their own personal latent powers. Is not the person who teaches called a teacher? Is not a person who can read thoughts, heal the sick, bend metal at a touch, make seeds sprout in his hand and make the hands of Big Ben go round just by looking at them from ground level a miracle worker?
Why is he saying he doesn't want to have the role of one who teaches? Wherein lies the virtue or usefulness of saying "I don't want to be a healer or miracle worker"? What title is one to give him? What name is one to call him by and how does he wish to be described? Is it not required of such a one, endowed with such powers, precisely to BE a teacher and healer? Is it really putting his gifts to responsible use to declare repeatedly, both verbally and in print "I don't know where my powers come from" and "I don't know what to do with them"?
Only one utterance of his along these lines is true. When he says "I am not a Guru" he unwittingly hits the nail upon the head. He is certainly not a Guru. He could be eventually - but not yet, for as has already been pointed out, a Guru is one who has already achieved enlightenment. He uses the word "Guru" because in the West, people mistakenly use it to describe someone who teaches. Experts in certain fields are referred to as a "Health Guru", an "Information Technology Guru" a "Fashion Guru" etc....but Gurus they are not.
Gurus are Gurus in spite of themselves for when enlightenment takes place they emanate love and light, power and sanctity. Every word they utter is saturated with wisdom, everyone they touch is healed. They are truly God-Realized men whose sole reason for being on earth is to lift humanity to a higher state of consciousness, liberate them from pain and sorrow and bring them back to God in blissful union. Their charisma draws humans irresistibly to them.
When Uri's Kundalini reaches his crown Chakra - and his enlightenment is complete he will become a Guru. He will not be able to say "I don't want to be a Guru" any more than an ugly duckling who has reached swanhood can say "I don't want to be a swan" or a lion cub who reaches lionhood can say "I don't wish to be a lion - I don't know what to do with my immense strength".
When he reaches Guruhood he will know what to do and say - like all God-men know what to do and say - because they are connected with their inner source of Divinity. This is what King David referred to in the Old Testament and what Jesus referred to in the New Testament when they both declared in the very same words to those who have ears to hear : "YOU ARE GODS".
Now we come to another astounding declaration of Uri's. He says "I know what it is to be poor, but I guess that in order to help humanity I have to return to the world of dirt poverty from which I came".
How on earth is Uri Geller's going back to being dirt poor (which he most certainly never will do!) going to help humanity in any shape or form?
Does he mean that he is planning to distribute his accumulated wealth among the poor? Or is he going to drag his wife, his mother and his two children to live in dirt poverty with him after years of affluent living? Or does he mean to leave them all behind to continue their life of affluence while he takes himself off to some desert as a complete renunciant of the world and all its ways and live on locusts and wild honey?
Whichever of these means he chooses to adopt in order to return to poverty, it would be interesting to know how he thinks it is going "to help humanity" -
Since he always stresses the fact that he neither is nor wants to be a teacher - Guru or healer - in what capacity and for what reason does he want to help humanity?
People whose whole life is dedicated to helping humanity are either Gurus, or teachers, or healers.
In the same breath Uri says : "something tells me, that I really have to disappear somewhere and that's when real spirituality will come - and that will be the time when I'll really be able to help" This last utterance is indicative of his repressed spiritual potential which has until now been held on the back burner due to the focus being placed on financial matters and the entertainment entrepreneurs that surrounded him at a crucial time of his youthful development.
When he says "that's when real spirituality will come" does it not show that he feels he is not yet fulfilling the spiritual side of his nature? It also shows that he is aware that spirituality needs to be given the chance to manifest itself through him.
How right he is when he concludes the statement with "that's when I'll really be able to help". How satisfying it is to see this ardent desire to help. It seems much more likely that "spirituality will come" when he takes time off (not necessarily "disappear somewhere") to learn how to meditate in order to access his latent spirituality. "The spirituality will come" as it has into the lives of so many who have done so before him. In Uri's case it will do so much faster, since the fire within him is already kindled.
What is to be hoped for however is that Uri will begin to see the real difference between merely being religious and being really spiritual. To be religious is to know the laws and dogmatic body of work of a particular religion - to be spiritual is to have a living and loving relationship with God in whose presence one lives and breathes and has one's being : absolutely inundated with joy, peace and contentment. Meditation is the surest method, which can transpose dry religious literature that only talks ABOUT God - into an actual living joyfully explosive EXPERIENCE of God. Rather like reading beautifully illustrated books ABOUT food, and then actually experiencing the PARTAKING of food. The one only gives us the necessary facts but leaves us un-nourished - while the other feeds us and delights both body and soul.
No priest, imam or rabbi can do more for us than show us the path to God - it takes a God-realized Guru to help us get plugged in to our own powerhouse of indwelling Divinity.
It is imperative to understand that though the word "Guru" is a Sanskrit word, and that in the last few decades many Gurus have come over from India, it does not necessarily mean that a Guru has to be of Indian or Hindu origin. There have been God-realized Christian Saints, Moslem Saints, Soufis and Rabbis who have gone about preaching and teaching people the way back to Godhead. There are many books obtainable in any library that mention the most famous among them - giving the gist of their teachings and accounts of their lives - Rabbi Lebovitch is a great favourite. His pictures and books can be seen in almost every devout Israeli household - Guru Nanak Sikh/Muslem, Jalaluddin Rumi, Ibn Arabi-Avicenna all muslims - St Theresa of Avila, St John of the Cross, Evelyn Underhill - Bubba Free John - (still alive) St Julian of Norwich (lady) all Christians. There are certainly men and women alive today who are in this category - of all religious denominations - but who have not yet achieved world-wide recognition or do not wish to do so. People who come across them and are influenced by them are very fortunate indeed. Hopefully Uri will be able to encounter one before it's too late - it need not be a Swami or a Rabbi, Imam or Priest - but some God-realized person without any of these titles - but certainly not someone who tells the world how to perform kosher sex. Sed, as far as the mystic spiritual path is concerned, is never kosher! Indulgence in sexual gratification results in Kundalini energy wastage, energy every drop of which is needed as fuel for the upward journey to the brain.
If and when he feels he wants to "disappear somewhere - so that the spirituality will come", there are numerous ashrams and centres dotted around the United Kingdom that he could wend his way to.
They have hundreds of members all devoted to the spiritual life and practicing meditation, among whom may be found practicing Jews, Moslems, Hindus, Sikhs, Soufis, Catholics, Protestants, Greek and Russian Orthodox Christians and a sprinkling of priests and nuns. Uri can approach any one of them to obtain information if he wants it - Then maybe the spirituality will come" and he "will be able to help". But spirituality like Charity, has to begin at home.
Surely before helping others he needs must allow the spirituality to come. He obviously knows that to be true - otherwise he wouldn't say that he felt the need to opt out at this moment in his career in order to bring a deeper spiritual focus into his life.
Uri has now introduced a set number of sentences into his lectures. He repeats them in a very methodical way and inserts them into strategic pauses before, in between and after the spoon-bending, the clock mending and the encapsulated version of his autobiographical story. The gist of his new message is this : "It is very important to believe in yourself and to be optimistic and positive" when he refers to the self does he mean the ego? Or the Higher Self. How can people believe in the Higher Self if they are unaware that there is a difference between ego - or identification with the body and the Real Self waiting to be connected within. He says "look into the mirror and begin to love yourself". But obviously the reflection one sees in the mirror is the bodily self - the ego - the small self which is in the words of Alan Watts "a socially constructed illusion" and not the Real Higher Self".
Uri himself loves his physical self which he sees in the mirror. To be able to say to others "love yourself, have faith in yourself, know your self and trust yourself, it is important to expound the truth of the existence of the Real Higher Self within. Since he himself loves the reflection he sees in the mirror and still declares that he does not know where his powers come from, what authority can be base the injunctions to love, respect and trust the SELF - i.e. the God within? His second pearl of wisdom is "there is no perfection in life". Ask any Yogi to comment on such a remark and he will smile and quote the essence of Yogic belief: "Everything is Perfect AS IT IS" He might even recite the following oft repeated quote from the Vedas:

PURUNAMIDAM
PURUNAT
PURUNAMUDACHYATE
PURUNASYA
PURUNAMADAYA
PURUNAMEVAVASHISHYATE
Meaning:
This world is perfect
that world is perfect (the invisible eternal world)
take away the perfect from the perfect,
Only the perfect remains.
If these words are a bit difficult to make head or tail of, we could consider this mathematical formula -
Take away Zero from Zero
Only Zero remains.
If that still does not convey any meaning, then one could demonstrate it by lighting a candle. By bringing another unlit candle and lighting it one could say while so doing - "This is a perfect flame that is a perfect flame - when one takes a perfect flame from the perfect flame only the perfect flame remains".
Jesus put it most simply and clearly - He said "Be ye perfect as your Father in heaven is perfect" - He didn't say "perfection is impossible". If we want perfection - we have to create it in our own selves.
In Uri's opinion: "Someone who tells you they're happy all the time - that's a lie".
It may be impossible for Uri and anyone else who has not reached the ultimate goal of living in the transcendental state of higher consciousness to believe in an unalterable state of joy.
If anyone says that they're happy all the time no matter whether their health suffers, or whether they're rich or poor, hot or cold, whether they've lost a loved one and all their possessions or undergone all the ups and downs possible in life, he should say - "What is your secret? Teach me, so that I too may be able to live in bliss that does not depend on outer circumstances". If he dismisses the claim to a permanently happy state of mind as a down right lie, is he not the loser? Not only is he losing out on the most prized condition that human beings can aspire to, but he shows his utter lack of interest in and knowledge of the core of all scriptural teaching which tell us repeatedly that "the fruit of the Holy Spirit is love, JOY, peace.... Shanti, Shanti, Shanti and Ananda - inviting us to "enter into the joy of the Lord"...."my cup runneth over - I will dwell in the house of the Lord (Superconciousness) for ever - Yea though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death - I will fear no ill - Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me"..............
If Uri is unaware of such truths - what is it he is aiming at teaching others? If he himself has no knowledge of how to enter into the promised land of the permanently blissful state of the Super conscious, how can he hope to teach others? One of Uri's repeated utterances on stage is "think positive" - leave negativity behind "By saying this he perhaps hopes to give his performances a tinge of elevated thought - but he does not tell people HOW to shift from negative ways of thinking to positive ones. It's not very easy to just decide to think positively - and keep it up, making it a way of life. There are people who actually find it easier and more pleasurable to be negative, grumpy, critical, angry or judgemental - and whose favourite pass-time is to gossip over tea and cake, tearing people's character to shreds or finding someone or other to blame for their own troubles or society's ills at large.
The source of all negativity is in the MIND. Hatred, fear, envy and anger are the four negativities manufactured by MIND power alone. They inhabit the realm of thought - and function only in the realm of thought. In the realm beyond thought there is no negativity, there is only the experience of love, joy and peace. The only way to get to that experience is to transcend thought - leap over the thought barrier and plunge into the Superconscious state where thought no longer functions - and one can be ecstatic - free of all worried, free of all negative thoughts and desires. The surest, easiest way of making the transfer from the world of negativity to the blissful higher state of Being is through the practice of mantric meditation - because it can transcend the thought process by means of repetition.
If Uri really wants to make people able to contact the positive side of their nature so that they can return to their original state of happiness the best way to go about it is for him to access his own centre of joy - his own inner Holy of Holies and then advise people how to get there themselves. When Adam and Eve entered into the realm of Thought, they began to think rather than just BE. When they learnt to think and use logic - they began to differentiate between good and evil thus entering into the world of duality (Dvaita in Sanskrit) with all its problems and negativities. They left the state of blissful Being behind and found it difficult to return to it. Their descendents too, inherited their knowledge of good and evil and all the problems that this entailed, because in so doing they lost contact with their indwelling God, and have had to struggle and strive to find the way back to Godhead in the realm of Non duality (Sanskrit A-dvaita) Jesus referred to this saying "When thine eye is SINGLE, they whole body shall be full of light". In other words - when you reach Non Duality you become enlightened or united to the Source of all Light. i.e. God, even while still in the body - As Job put it ......"Yet in my flesh shall I see God".
So, of course, Uri really would be helping humanity as he seems to want to do so sincerely - but he needs to tell them HOW to do so when he advocates the practive of positive thinking and the abandoning of negative thinking. It's quite an evolved science which he needs to learn thoroughly - and be prepared to explain it to people in full instead of just glibly touching upon the subject, saying "Try to think positively". Recently during a phone-in on good morning T.V. (April 10th Channel 3) a lady rang up after hearing him say "think positive", asking. "How does one do that? I try to think positively but my negative thoughts keep crowding in".
One can imagine this question being echoed by every person seeking escape from negativity.
During the same programme another lady rang up asking where Uri thought his powers come from - He answered - "I don't know". Here was yet another tremendous opportunity to give God his due gone down the drain!
"Enlighten" ? Does he mean he bestows enlightenment? Only someone completely unaware of what enlightenment means can claim "enlighten" anyone. Surely he means "I pass on information" - not "I enlighten"?
Maybe he enables people to think that there must be a God - a force in the universe other than just the material world around us - and that's a very good thing - that's step number one to enlightenment and to a better life and to a higher state of consciousness. But that alone does not constitute enlightenment. It certainly does not awaken the dormant Kundalini within their spinal cord. Nor does it end all their sorrows and their ignorance. Not a single one of Uri Geller's books can fulfil that claim, and it would be interesting to see how many people would be willing to come forward and say that they arrived at full enlightenment in the true sense of the word, just by reading any of Uri Geller's books.
He adds wistfully: "I am doing something positive that influences people and changes their lives on a small scale".
But with the powers invested in him, he could be doing it on a very large scale. Everyone of us is capable of bringing about change in our environment for the better or for worse, and influence the people around us for good or otherwise - on a small scale, but someone with Uri's capabilities could rank among the great names throughout history who contributed a civilizing influence to the evolution of mankind on a colossal scale lasting for centuries.
In bringing the interview to a close Uri was asked how he envisaged the future. His answer was : "I think that things are moving towards me. They are doing so big, big - and I think that something quite major will happen to me in the coming ten years for Uri Geller - but I don't quite know what it is".
How wonderful it would be if he took up meditation - released his trapped Kundalini energy - and became enlightened. What a blissful state of consciousness would open up to him, what an increase in powers and the wisdom in how to use them would be his. How greatly he could help the whole world - Instead of antagonism and criticism and suspicion, he would earn people's trust and gratitude as he taught them and healed them and made them grow spiritually. That would indeed be "Something quite major".
The world is praying and watching and hoping that he will make the right choice......
