Chapter Twelve

FIFTH CHAKRA - The Throat Chakra

This is the realm of the very highly sharpened intuition where almost supernatural events occur and can actually be made to happen through the exercise of individual will, and all things seem to work together for good. This is where the mind seems to be able to manipulate both time and space - for its own fulfilment. At this stage we take life in our own hands and take responsibility for all that happens, no longer blaming it on accident or attributing it to coincidence. Everything that happens here is the result of our own intention. A person's creativity expands to an almost unlimited degree. There seems to be no barrier between a person's mind and his source of inspiration. This makes it much more easy to be generous or magnanimous and one feels more of an intimacy with God, which in turn increases the possibility for personal power. We can make time and space to serve our own purpose.

The creativity within us that was hampered by a sense of self-conscious guilt is set free, so that one is able to return to the Source. Here, the individual has to be careful, especially during the early stages of reaching the fifth chakra , because one has not hitherto been aware of the power of one's thoughts - every one of which, even the most seemingly insignificant, has powerful consequences. So in a sense, one begins to acquire the qualities and powers of an Avatar, i.e. a God-realised person.

From now on, one is creating one's own life process it becomes easier to identify with the Higher Self. The limitations of the physical body seem to diminish.

In order to achieve this state of Creative Power one has to have gone through years of meditational practice. This is what Deepak Chopra concludes in his book "How to Know God" (page 121). He says, "One prerequisite to be able to identify with the Higher Self than the one living here and now in this limited physical body, and to acquire the full powers of creativity, is years of meditation, contemplation and prayer. Another prerequisite is doing a great deal of inner work to remove self-doubt and beliefs about one's imperfections.

"Above all, this is a stage of power, and that entails getting straight about whether you deserve to wield it."

Here, every intention is unimportant and has consequences. That does not mean that one necessarily acquires fame and fortune. The real bonus one accrues at this stage is the strong conviction of being closer to God.

It cannot be stressed strongly enough that to reach this stage one has to learn to become established in "Restful Awareness" - and that can most successfully happen by practising the technique of meditation. This is not mere relaxation as such, this is actually delving into our reservoir of inspiration and energy and being able to acquire the creative impulse and a sense of joy needed to make life superb, and to live in a state where one is always able to have access to the all knowing creative MIND.

Brain research has shown that whether one wants to be creative artistically or musically or poetically, or in any other way, one achieves the most effective results. When the cerebral cortex reaches the required state of "Restful Awareness", biofeedback machines exhibit Alpha rhythm patterns on their screens. Here it is possible to experience flashes of revelation that do not belong to the ordinary thinking process. At this stage, one can pose a question to one's subconscious mind and just wait for the answer, most often when one goes into this relaxed mode.

When one acquires this faculty, it is possible to shape one's own fate, with both space and time placed at our disposal. None of this could ever be proved empirically of course, though the lucky recipient begins to exhibit almost miraculous powers, unexplained flashes of inspiration and intuitive knowledge.

In other words it becomes possible to actually create the outcome of each event in life, not just experiencing events at random and being at the mercy of outer happenings or controlled by the juxtaposition of the planets in one's astrological chart. We choose to create our surroundings and our life circumstances because once this chakra is reached all limitations of human existence can be removed. All previously experienced suffering and frustrating limitations took place as a result of wrong thinking or incomplete knowledge of the truth.

At this juncture it becomes literally possible to bring into being a whole world and a whole series of events by obliterating completely the usual thought process and liberating the creative thought process refusing to acknowledge the arbitrary line separating our creative intelligence and its imaginary creations and ones that appear in the "real world".

To be able to cross that line one needs to reach stage five: it is impossible to do so before then. One is not quite able to get to the point of levitation or raising the dead at this stage. It is necessary to reach the seventh chakra for that, for there the unification between the Soul and God-conscious and subconscious mind has taken place to the highest degree.

At stage five, one is still an apprentice so to speak, still having to become acquainted with our new powers, because there is still a barrier between the individual mind and its Divine Source, which limits our control of Time and Space. For all these limitations to disappear and make it possible to move on to stages six and seven, one has to get closer and closer to the Source (in the Sahasra or seventh chakra ) so that finally union with God takes place. That is when our creative powers fully come into play. These powers only develop as we gradually become more and more intimate with God, and at each stage of progress we are allowed more and more of such intimacy. The inhibitions that held us back begin to fall away, because we ourselves begin to let go of them and our perspective understanding of God has changed and we dare to move closer to Him.

When all this takes place, the individual no longer feels inadequate or powerless, ignorant of what the future holds. Life is no longer looked at as an obstacle race or a place of conflict and confusion, or being at the mercy of circumstance.

In chakra five, no matter what happens to us, everything has meaning on our spiritual journey, so that we are able to deal adequately with whatever presents itself, and become the actual author of our own daily Life-script and need no second opinion - for the answers come from within.

One of the sure signs that one is living in stage five is that it is possible for all wishes to materialise as a result of the very advanced internal process taking place. It is obvious in that case that we should meticulously adopt the right sense of values and align our intentions and our free will with the Creator's own - trusting the Cosmic forces as to the eventual outcome.

If we surrender our will to the Will of the Higher Self we can become completely detached to the results and in the words of Rudyard Kipling, we can:

"meet with triumph and disaster

and treat those two impostors just the same".

Most importantly, this is the realm where peak experience is frequent and one lives in a state of expanded ecstatic consciousness, for bliss is the real norm of the soul, joy (ananda) is the very substance of the soul. One can live in a state of trust and safety, feeling blest and showered with grace no matter what happens in the world around us.

FIFTH CHAKRA AS APPLIED TO URI GELLER

In stage five, this is the world of art, invention and discovery.

Uri is certainly artistic - though artistically untutored. He has never developed his talent vocationally or professionally. What he does do is draw with a thick black felt marker on A4 paper - symbolic images of people and animals and religious symbols. After signing them, he sells them. They take a few minutes to do. In Japan they sell like hot cakes for a thousand pounds a piece! (Reminiscent of Picasso paying for his hotels meals etc - by signing his paper table napkins).

As for invention - yes, he has the gift of inventiveness - but it has never been put to commercial use (surprisingly) because he has found other means of making money. As for discovery - in Uri's case he is capable of discovering hidden mines - gold mines, and other precious metals, and oil fields. He has been employed by, notably, the Mexican government of locate such treasures, and by the British Royal Navy to locate sunken submarines of world war two with the aim of retrieving millions of pounds' worth of equipment, electronic or otherwise. Uri is taken up in a helicopter and indicates the appropriate area where the lost submarines or goldmines are to be found.

What is yet to be determined is how far he has delved into Self-discovery and discovery of hidden truths.
